Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Declaration
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are organic substances that persist in the environment, accumulate in living organisms and pose a risk to our health and theenvironment. They can be transported by air, water or migratory species across international borders, reaching regions where they have never been produced or used. The continuous release of POPs into the environment have been seriously concerned by European Union since Regulation (EC) No 850/2004 ofthe European Parliament and of the Council on POPs entered into force in 2004. After amended several times and for further amendments, the POPs regulation was recast into Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 of the European Parliament and ofthe Council in 2019.
The Stockholm Convention Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC) reviewsand updates the Stockholm Convention’s list of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) which
details the substances that are eliminated, restricted, or subject to limitations. The Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 implements the Stockholm Convention, therefore this declaration includes compliance with the Stockholm Convention.
